Who’s the Playwright?
E.B. White (Author) was born in Mt Vernon, New York in 1899. He graduated from Cornell University and worked as a reporter at a number of publications including The New Yorker. There he fell in love and married his editor, Katharine Sergeant Angell. White was considered the most important contributor toThe New Yorker during the1930's, writing mostly essays and articles. His niece suggested he try writing children's books, and his first story was the popular Stuart Little, written in 1945. In 1952 he wrote his second book, Charlotte's Web, which has become one of the most beloved children's books of all time. Both books won the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal, a major award for children's lierature.His third and final children's book wasThe Trumpet of the Swan. E.B. White passed away in 1985 after battling Alzheimer's Disease, but his classic stories will live on. (adapted from www.kidzworld.com)
Joseph Robinette (adaptor) is the author of 51 published plays and musicals, including The Fabulous Fable Factory, written with composer Thomas Tierney, and Charlotte's Web, adapted from the novel by E.B. White, two of the most widely produced children's plays in the United States. He has also dramatized the authorized stage versions of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Paper Chase, and A Rose for Emily. The recipient of numerous playwriting awards, Robinette was presented the 1976 Charlotte Chorpenning Cup, given annually by the Children's Theatre Association of America to "an outstanding writer of children's plays who has achieved national recognition." In 2006, he was awarded the Children's Theatre Foundation of America Medallion "...for his body of dramatic works for children and young people in the United States and beyond."
